Kurt Iveson for National Council
Professor of Urban Geography in the School of Geosciences
I am a Professor of Urban Geography in the School of Geosciences, and have been an active member of the University of Sydney NTEU Branch for many years – including past roles as Branch President, Vice-President (Academic), Chair of the Cases Committee, Picket Captain, local delegate.
I’m nominating for a role on our union’s National Council for three reasons:
To represent the interests of our Branch in the union’s State and National decision-making bodies, where important decisions about union strategy and priorities are made;
To contribute to State and National campaigns on reforms to university governance. These reforms are a vital for our on-going efforts to advance the interests of staff and students and to roll back the corporatisation of our universities;
To assist our union to build effective relationships with other unions and civil society coalitions working on issues that shape our working lives here in Sydney, including housing and transport justice.
If elected, I’m committed to working closely with our Branch Committee and leadership in representing our Branch, to building effective relationships with Councillors from other Branches, and to attending meetings of State and National Council.
