Henry (Harry) Maher for Branch Committee
Education Focused Lecturer in Politics, Discipline of Government and International Relations
I am standing to help build union power, enforce our EA rights, and to advocate for the growing cohort of education-focused members.
As an education-focused academic, I have experienced firsthand the chronic overwork inflicted on EFRs, the narrowing of career and research opportunities, the destruction of the teaching-research nexus, and the failed neoliberal managerialism eroding public faith in universities.
Management treat EFRs as disposable workforce that can be churned through, replaced, and required to work 60+ hour weeks as needed. Against this exploitation, we need binding workload protections, genuine career pathways , and the right to convert to balanced teaching-research positions.
I have supported these goals by representing the NTEU on the Committee monitoring workloads and conditions for EFRs, creating the NTEU Education-Focused Members Group, on the NTEU FASS Workloads Committee, and joining the NTEU Cases Committee this year. These activities represent the crucial everyday work of building member networks, enforcing rights we win on picket lines, and creating a democratic university that lives up to management platitudes about leadership for the common good.
Vote NTEU Renewal.
For the many, not the few.
For Secretary, vote Rebecca Connell.
