School Manager, FASS

I am the School Manager of the School of Art, Communication and English. I previously worked at the Student Centre and as Manager, Undergraduate, FASS.

Having worked at all three levels of the University structure and having been involved in numerous change plans, I have gained extensive knowledge of how good change should be managed.

Good change needs good governance, systems that work, manageable workloads, and agency to innovate.

Centralisation of management over the last decade has not only disempowered staff, it has increased frustration levels because decisions now move through so many levels for approval which add no value.  This reduces efficiency for which staff ultimately bear responsibility in rising workloads.

Recent Federal and NSW governments’ inquiries into university governance and multiple waves of Sydney Listens surveys have exposed the problems – we now need management to trust in the expertise of its own staff to find collaborative solutions to our shared problems.

Now is the time to bring about genuine improvement. Working together we can do it.
